DING DING DING elsewhereangel has hit upon a THING! at least i'm pretty sure. back when i still had one.
i can't tell you how many sighs i've heaved scrolling through fb survivor communities, seeing yet another too-ugly-to-commit-to-a-piece-of paper atrocity installed permanently into a survivor's body, traditionally with fifty "ooooo so beauuuutiful" comments trailing.
it can be easy to get caught up in that scene, i think, especially before you develop survivor community filters and the understanding that NOT EVERYBODY PROCESSES THIS THE SAME WAY and THAT IS A GOOD THING. me, i'm just... "don't you get enough needles stuck into your body now in regular time? really? you want more needles? for a cancer ribbon that put me that much further off the concept of cancer ribbons?" i mean, seriously. the thing is three colors. it's difficult to understand what you are looking at. it's even difficult to look up because you have to remember three colors instead of one. no wonder most also incorporate a butterfly.
