perhaps what it boils down to is: if i am going to survive this, if i'm going to move forward, if i'm ever going to let myself be, i need to stop compromising my basic needs around acknowledgment and respect to keep near-strangers content in utterly superfluous delusions.

there's compassion and there's coddling. it's time to stop confusing the two.
